Rates are Amazon's published 2026 monthly storage rates (approx). Peak Q4 rates are far higher, so keep Q4 inventory lean.

02How storage fees work

You pay by the cubic foot, per month.

Amazon multiplies the cubic feet your inventory occupies by a monthly rate. That rate jumps sharply in Q4 (October to December) to discourage warehouses filling up before peak.

01

Volume, not units

A large, light product can cost more to store than a small, heavy one. Measure the packaged dimensions.

02

Q4 is the trap

Peak-season rates can be roughly 3x the off-season rate, so send in only what you will sell through the quarter.

03Worked example

Storage is rent, and Q4 raises it.

Say a unit occupies 0.06 cubic feet and you hold 400 units: that is 24 cubic feet in Amazon's warehouse. At the monthly rate you enter, $0.87 per cubic foot as an example, storage runs about $20.88 a month, small enough to ignore, which is exactly why most sellers do.

Then peak season reprices the shelf: October through December rates rise steeply, and aged-inventory surcharges stack on top for stock that sits too long. Slow SKUs quietly become the most expensive shelf space you own, and the fix is usually a reorder-size decision, not a storage one.

04Frequently asked questions
How are Amazon storage fees calculated?

Cubic feet of inventory multiplied by a monthly per-cubic-foot rate. The rate is higher for oversize items and much higher in Q4.

Why are my Q4 storage fees so high?

Amazon raises monthly storage rates from October to December to keep warehouse space free for fast-moving inventory during peak.

What is the difference between storage and long-term fees?

This tool covers monthly storage. Amazon also charges aged-inventory surcharges on units that sit for many months, so turn inventory over.

How do I find my product's cubic feet?

Multiply the packaged dimensions in inches, length by width by height, and divide by 1,728. Use the packaged size Amazon measures, not the raw product size, and round up when in doubt.

How do I avoid aged-inventory surcharges?

Order less, more often, and act before stock crosses the age thresholds: discount it, run it through a deal, or remove it. Paying to store inventory nobody is buying is the slowest way to lose money on Amazon.
