How much does it cost to sell on eBay in 2026?

Quick answer

The main fees to sell on eBay in 2026: 250 zero insertion fee listings a month, then $0.35 per listing, and a final value fee when the item sells. In most categories that is 13.6% of the total sale (item, shipping and tax) up to $7,500, plus $0.40 per order over $10 ($0.30 at $10 or less). Basic and higher Stores pay 12.7% up to $2,500.

Key takeaways

  • Most categories: 13.6% of the total sale up to $7,500 per item, 2.35% above that, plus $0.30 (orders of $10 or less) or $0.40 (over $10) per order.
  • The fee is charged on the total amount of the sale, including shipping and sales tax, not just the item price.
  • eBay Stores run from $4.95 a month (Starter, yearly plan) to $2,999.95 (Enterprise). Basic and up cut most categories to 12.7% up to $2,500 per item.
  • Watch the extras: Below Standard sellers pay an additional 6% on final value fees, the international fee is 1.65%, and US currency conversion rises from 3% to 3.25% on 14 October 2026.

How much does eBay charge for selling?

eBay's seller fees come in two main parts and a few optional or conditional ones. Here is the full list, as published on eBay's fees pages on 7 October 2026:

  • Insertion fee (listing fee): 250 zero insertion fee listings a month, then $0.35 per listing, per category. Non-refundable if the item does not sell.
  • Final value fee: a percentage of the total amount of the sale, set by category, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 for orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 for orders over $10.00.
  • Store subscription (optional): $4.95 to $2,999.95 a month, which lowers insertion and final value fees.
  • Optional listing upgrades such as bold titles, subtitles, Gallery Plus and a second category, charged whether or not the item sells.
  • Promoted Listings (optional): with the general strategy, an ad rate you set between 2% and 100% of the total sale, charged only on sales within 30 days of an ad click.
  • Conditional fees: international fee, currency conversion, Below Standard and high not-as-described surcharges, express payouts.

What are eBay's final value fees by category?

These are the rates for sellers without a Store (and Starter Store subscribers, who pay the same final value fees). The percentage applies to the total amount of the sale: item price, handling, shipping charged to the buyer and sales tax. The per-order fee is added on top unless noted.

eBay Help, Selling fees (id 4822), checked 7 October 2026. The per-order fee is $0.30 for orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 over $10.00.

What are eBay listing fees (insertion fees)?

Every month you get up to 250 zero insertion fee listings, or more with an eBay Store. After that, the insertion fee is $0.35 per listing in most categories. It is charged per listing and per category, for the original listing and for each relist, and it is not refunded if the item does not sell. Good 'Til Cancelled listings count toward the allowance each time they renew.

The exceptions worth knowing: guitars and basses carry no insertion fee, sneakers with a starting price of $150 or more carry none, and heavy equipment listings cost $20. Optional upgrades (bold, subtitle, Gallery Plus, a second category) add their own fee whether or not the item sells.

How much does an eBay Store cost, and is it worth it?

A Store buys you a bigger free listing allowance, cheaper insertion fees after it, and lower final value fees from the Basic tier up.

eBay Help, Store selling fees (id 4122), checked 7 October 2026. Basic and higher tiers also get larger allowances in select categories.
Store tierMonthly planYearly plan (per month)Zero insertion fee fixed price listings a month (all categories)Insertion fee after allowance
Starter$7.95$4.95250$0.30
Basic$27.95$21.951,000$0.25
Premium$74.95$59.9510,000$0.10 fixed price; $0.15 auction
Anchor$349.95$299.9525,000$0.05 fixed price; $0.10 auction
EnterpriseNot currently available$2,999.95100,000$0.05 fixed price; $0.10 auction

The bigger saving is the final value fee. Starter pays the same 13.6% as a non-Store seller in most categories, but Basic, Premium, Anchor and Enterprise pay 12.7% on the total sale up to $2,500 per item and 2.35% on the portion over $2,500. In other categories the Store rate also drops: for example, Jewelry & Watches falls from 15% to 13% (up to $5,000) on Basic and higher.

The math for most categories: 0.9 percentage points saved on every sale. A Basic Store on the yearly plan ($21.95 a month) pays for itself at about $2,440 a month in sales; on the monthly plan ($27.95), at about $3,110. A brand selling $100,000 a month in most categories saves roughly $900 a month in final value fees on Basic, before counting the larger listing allowance.

How much does eBay take from a sale? Worked examples

Worked from eBay's published rates. Totals include shipping and sales tax because that is what eBay charges the fee on.

Shaazford worked examples on eBay's rates checked 7 October 2026. Rounded to the cent. Ad fees, international fees and surcharges excluded.
SaleTotal amount of saleFee without a StoreFee with a Basic Store
Most categories: $40 item + $10 shipping + $4 tax$54.0013.6% = $7.34 + $0.40 = $7.74 (14.3% of the total)12.7% = $6.86 + $0.40 = $7.26
Most categories: $8 item, free shipping, $0.66 tax$8.6613.6% = $1.18 + $0.30 = $1.48 (17.1%)12.7% = $1.10 + $0.30 = $1.40
Book: $20 + $5 shipping, no tax$25.0015.3% = $3.83 + $0.40 = $4.2315.3% = $3.83 + $0.40 = $4.23
Guitar: $3,000 including shipping and tax$3,000.006.7% = $201.00 + $0.40 = $201.40Store rate: 6.7% up to $2,500, see eBay's Store table
Sneakers: $200 including shipping and tax$200.008% = $16.00, no per-order feeBasic and higher: 7% = $14.00

The lesson in row two: the per-order fee hurts cheap items most. On an order under $10, eBay's take is around 17% before ads, so bundle low-price products into multi-packs.

What other eBay seller fees can apply?

These are the charges that turn a 14% fee into 20% or more if nobody is watching:

  • Below Standard surcharge: if your account is Below Standard in the evaluation on the 20th of the month, eBay charges an additional 6% on final value fees for sales the following month, rising to 7% after four or more consecutive months.
  • High not-as-described returns: a Very High rate of 'Item not as described' return requests in a category adds 5% on final value fees in that category (6% after four or more months). If both surcharges apply, only the Below Standard one is charged.
  • International fee: 1.65% of the total sale when the buyer is outside the US, unless you use eBay International Shipping on eligible listings.
  • Currency conversion: 3% for US-registered sellers, rising to 3.25% from 14 October 2026.
  • Promoted Listings general strategy: 2% to 100% of the total sale, your choice, only on ad-attributed sales within 30 days.
  • Express payouts: a flat $2.00 per express payout to a debit card or eligible bank account.

For brands at $100K+ a month, fees are rarely the problem; the leaks are ad rates set without a margin floor and seller-level surcharges nobody noticed. We run eBay inside Omnichannel Growth at $3,200 a month, flat, and check both every week.
