How do you use eBay sold listings to price your products?

Quick answer

eBay sold listings show what buyers actually paid. Sign in, search your item, and filter to sold items to see about the last 90 days. For more, open Product research in Seller Hub: it covers 3 years of eBay sales, includes accepted Best Offer prices, and calculates average sold price, shipping and sell-through. Price from matching condition and format, then subtract eBay's fees to check margin.

Key takeaways

  • Sold items search covers roughly the last 90 days; Product research in Seller Hub covers 3 years and is available to every seller with Seller Hub access.
  • Product research shows the price an item actually sold for even when a Best Offer was accepted. Regular search results do not.
  • When we checked on 7 October 2026, a signed-out sold items search sent us to eBay's sign-in page. Sign in first.
  • Price on like-for-like sales: same condition, same format, same bundle, shipping included. Then subtract fees before you call it a margin.

How do you find sold listings on eBay?

On a desktop browser, the route eBay describes is through search:

  1. Sign in. When we checked on 7 October 2026, opening a sold items search while signed out redirected to eBay's sign-in page.
  2. Search your item. Use the words a buyer would use: brand, model, size. Add the UPC or MPN in Product research for exact matches.
  3. Filter to sold items. Tick Sold items in the search filters, or go to Advanced Search, enter your keywords and choose the completed or sold listings option.
  4. Narrow it. Filter by condition, Buy It Now or auction, and item location so the results match what you are selling.
  5. Read the sold prices and the shipping. A $30 item with $10 shipping and a $40 item with free shipping are the same sale to the buyer.

In the eBay app, you can also search by photo: tap the camera icon, snap or upload a picture, or scan a barcode to find matching listings, then apply the sold filter.

Sold items vs completed listings: what is the difference?

eBay calls items you are selling active listings and items that have ended completed or ended listings. Completed means the listing has ended; sold means it ended with a buyer. Filtering to sold items only is what you want for pricing. Completed but unsold listings are useful for the opposite question: at what price did nobody buy?

One catch: regular search shows the listing price. If a seller accepted a Best Offer, the real price was lower, and only Product research shows it.

How far back do eBay sold listings go?

It depends on which tool you use. eBay's own help pages give these windows:

How do you use eBay Product research to price an item?

Product research lives under the Research tab in Seller Hub (and in the eBay mobile apps). Search by keyword or by product identifier, then:

  • Set the date range. Use 90 days for current pricing; stretch to 1 to 3 years to see seasonality and whether prices are trending up or down.
  • Apply filters: condition, listing format, price range, buyer and seller location, eBay marketplace, and category-specific filters such as model or color after you pick a subcategory.
  • Exclude noise. Put a minus sign before a word to drop it (iPhone 15 128GB -cover), or use OR in brackets for alternatives (iPhone 15 (128GB OR 256GB)).
  • Read the metrics: average sold price, sold price range, average shipping cost, share of listings with free shipping, sell-through rate (for searches of items sold 90 days ago or less), number of sellers and the selling format.

Product research is strict: a sale has to match your keywords and filters to count. Regular eBay search pads thin results with related items, which can make a market look bigger than it is.

How do you turn eBay sold data into a price?

A method we use with brands entering eBay:

  1. Match like for like. Same condition, same format, same pack size. A new-in-box sale says nothing about a used one.
  2. Use the total the buyer paid. Sold price plus shipping. Then decide whether to show free shipping and fold postage into the price.
  3. Take the median, not the top. A few high sales are outliers. Price near the middle of the sold range if you want velocity, above it only with better photos, specifics or bundles.
  4. Check sell-through and seller count. High sell-through with few sellers is room to hold price. Low sell-through with many sellers means price is not the only problem.
  5. Subtract fees before you decide. At 13.6% plus $0.40 per order in most categories, plus any ad rate, a $50 sale nets about $42.80 before shipping and product cost. See our eBay fees guide.
  6. Recheck monthly. The listing tool also shows the median sold price of similar listings for many categories as you set your price.

How do you see your own sold items on eBay?

Your own sales are in the Orders tab of Seller Hub, or Orders in My eBay, for up to the last 2 years. You can search by buyer, order status (awaiting payment, awaiting shipment, paid and shipped, awaiting feedback) and time frame. Every sale has a 12-digit order number that references the whole order.

For analysis, download the orders report from Seller Hub as a CSV. It carries price, shipping, quantity, whether the sale came through Promoted Listings and the tax eBay collected, which makes it the cleanest way to build a margin model per SKU.

For a brand, the useful question is not what one item sold for but where your catalog should sit against the market. That is the first thing we map when we take on eBay for a brand doing $100K+ a month, inside Omnichannel Growth at $3,200 a month.
