What is the best thing to sell on eBay in 2026?
The best thing to sell on eBay is a product with proven sold demand, a healthy sell-through rate and margin left after fees, not a pick from a generic list. eBay's Product research tool (formerly Terapeak) in Seller Hub shows up to 3 years of sold data: average price, sell-through rate, number of sellers and selling format. Check it, then do the fee maths before you buy stock.
Key takeaways
- Most 'top things to sell on eBay' lists cite no data. eBay's own sold data is the better source, and it is in Seller Hub.
- Product research shows 3 years of sales: trends, average and range of sold prices, shipping, sell-through rate, number of sellers and format.
- eBay's Q2 2026 results put its weight behind collectibles, trading cards, Motors parts, pre-loved fashion and luxury resale.
- Final value fees run from 6.7% to 15.3% depending on category, plus $0.30 or $0.40 per order. Profit is what is left after that, shipping and ads.
Why a 'top 10 things to sell on eBay' list will not help you
Lists of the top things to sell on eBay rarely say where their numbers come from, and the answer changes by brand, condition and season. A category can be huge on eBay and still be a poor choice for you if fifty sellers are undercutting each other, or if the fee and shipping eat the margin.
eBay gives every seller the data to answer the question for their own products. Use it, and treat anyone's list, including this page, as a starting point to check, not a buying list.
How do you find what sells on eBay with Product research (Terapeak)?
Product research, the tool that used to be called Terapeak, lives in the Research tab of Seller Hub and in the eBay apps. eBay says sellers with access to Seller Hub can use it. It covers the last 3 years of eBay sales data for millions of items:
| Metric | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Sales trends | Whether demand is rising, flat or seasonal |
| Average sales price and sold price range | What buyers actually paid, not asking prices |
| Average shipping cost and listings with free shipping | What buyers expect to pay to ship |
| Sell-through rate (searches of 90 days or less) | How much of the listed supply actually sells |
| Total number of sellers | How crowded the product is |
| Selling format | Whether auction or fixed price wins for that item |
- Search the exact product, by keyword or product, then filter by category, condition, brand, color, or buyer and seller location.
- Read sold, not active. Sold prices and sell-through tell you demand. Active listings tell you competition.
- Compare formats. If auctions sell well below fixed price, list fixed price, and the reverse.
- Use Sourcing insights if you have a Store. Business sellers with a Basic Store or above get it at no extra cost, including category research on high demand and low supply.
How do you check eBay sold listings without Seller Hub?
eBay's own pricing help gives the quick route: open Advanced Search, enter keywords that describe your item, choose Completed listings and search. That shows what similar items sold for recently.
For some items eBay also shows a price recommendation while you list. eBay says those ranges are based on similar items recently sold, with fees excluded. For a deeper method, see our guide to eBay sold listings research.

Which categories is eBay itself investing in?
eBay does not publish a best-sellers list, but its quarterly results show where it is putting money. In its second quarter 2026 release (5 August 2026), eBay reported gross merchandise volume of $22.4 billion, up 15% as reported, and called out:
- Collectibles: eBay says it reinforced its leadership by expanding Authenticity Guarantee, and its AI card scanning feature passed 80 million scans.
- Motors Parts & Accessories: new easy and free returns in the UK.
- Pre-loved fashion and luxury resale: eBay points to buyer confidence in its luxury resale offering.
- eBay Live: GMV up roughly eight times year over year across seven markets.
eBay's Authenticity Guarantee, which inspects items before they reach the buyer, covers watches, shoes, apparel, handbags and luxury accessories, trading cards, jewelry and coins. Those are the categories where eBay is building buyer trust. If you sell jewelry, read how to sell jewelry on eBay.
How do you work out profit after eBay fees?
The best things to sell on eBay for profit are the ones where the margin survives the fee. eBay charges a final value fee on the total sale (item, shipping, handling and sales tax) plus $0.30 per order of $10 or less, or $0.40 above $10. Category rates for eBay.com, checked 7 October 2026:
| Category | Final value fee |
|---|---|
| Most categories | 13.6% up to $7,500 per item, 2.35% on the portion above |
| Books & Magazines, Movies & TV, Music (most) | 15.3% up to $7,500, 2.35% above |
| Jewelry & Watches (except watches) | 15% up to $5,000; 9% if the sale is over $5,000 |
| Watches, Parts & Accessories | 15% up to $1,000; 6.5% from $1,000 to $7,500; 3% above |
| Women's Bags & Handbags | 15% up to $2,000; 9% if over $2,000 |
| Men's and women's athletic shoes | 8% at $150 or more with no per order fee; 13.6% below $150 |
| Guitars & Basses | 6.7% up to $7,500, 2.35% above |
Worked example (our arithmetic): a $60 order in a most-categories item pays 13.6% ($8.16) plus $0.40, so $8.56 to eBay. Subtract your product cost, shipping label, packaging and any Promoted Listings ad rate. If what is left is thin, the product is not the best thing for you to sell, however popular it is. Our eBay fees guide covers the rest of the fee table.
What makes a product worth selling on eBay?
- Proven sold demand in Product research, not just many active listings.
- A sell-through rate high enough that stock turns, without discounting to move it.
- A margin that survives the final value fee, shipping and ads.
- Few enough sellers that you are not competing on price alone.
- Low return risk. A Very High rate of 'item not as described' returns adds 5% to final value fees in that category.
- No listing rules you cannot meet, such as Authenticity Guarantee or the jewelry policy.
For brands already doing $100K+ a month on Amazon or Shopify, eBay is a natural channel for overstock, open box, refurbished and older models. Our eBay team runs that research and the channel itself.
