What is Seller Fulfilled Prime, and what are the requirements in 2026?
Seller Fulfilled Prime lets you show the Prime badge on orders you ship yourself or through a 3PL. To join, pre-qualify (100 seller-fulfilled packages in 90 days, cancellation under 2.5%, valid tracking over 95%, late shipment under 4%), then pass a 4-week trial. Once enrolled, keep on-time delivery at 93.5% or higher, valid tracking at 99%, cancellations at 0.5% or less, and meet delivery speed targets.
Key takeaways
- Two steps: pre-qualify on 90 days of seller-fulfilled history, then pass a 4-week trial shipping 100+ Prime packages. Three trial attempts per calendar year.
- Ongoing: 93.5% on-time delivery, 99% valid tracking, 0.5% cancellation, plus delivery speed by size tier, reviewed weekly.
- Operating rules: same-day handling for fast orders, cut-offs no earlier than 2:00 p.m. weekdays, weekend operations, free Prime shipping, prepaid returns.
- Timing for 2026: the last trial start before peak was 19 September. A trial started now cannot graduate until after 31 December 2026.
What is Seller Fulfilled Prime and how does it work?
Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP) puts Prime branding on listings you fulfill without Amazon. You store the stock, pick, pack and ship it, with your own team or a third-party logistics provider. Amazon handles post-order customer service for Prime items, including returns, refunds and adjustments; you handle pre-order questions.
Amazon's pitch is the badge: it says Prime branding "helps increase your likelihood of becoming the Featured Offer." The cost is a strict delivery standard, measured every week.
What are the Seller Fulfilled Prime requirements?
Amazon's published thresholds, by stage:
| Stage | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Pre-qualify | Domestic US default shipping address; Professional selling account |
| Pre-qualify (past 90 days) | 100+ seller-fulfilled packages; cancellation rate under 2.5%; valid tracking rate over 95%; late shipment rate under 4% |
| Trial | 4 weeks (28 days); 100+ packages from Prime trial orders; ship consistently every week; meet all performance requirements. Missing any requirement in any two weeks fails the trial |
| Enrolled: on-time delivery | 93.5% or higher |
| Enrolled: valid tracking | 99% or higher, with a first scan from an Amazon-integrated carrier |
| Enrolled: cancellation rate | 0.5% or less (all seller-initiated cancellations) |
| Enrolled: volume | At least 100 SFP packages a month, shipped consistently, or Amazon limits your daily Prime order volume |
Doing $100K+ a month and aiming for $1M? Weighing SFP against FBA at $100K+ a month? We will model both on your SKUs and send the answer in writing.
What delivery speed does Seller Fulfilled Prime require?
Delivery speed is the share of Prime customer page views where your offer showed a delivery promise within 1, 2 or 5 days. Minimums by size tier:
| Size tier | 1 day or less | 2 days or less | 5 days or less |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard size | 40% or more | 75% or more | 90% or more |
| Oversize | 15% or more | 45% or more | 80% or more |
| Extra large | N/A | 25% or more | 60% or more |
From 31 May to 17 October 2026, Amazon is temporarily leaving weekends out of the speed metric while it launches zip-code delivery dates. SFP sellers must still operate on weekends.
What operating rules come with SFP?
- Handling time: orders with same-day, one-day or two-day delivery received before cut-off ship the same day. Standard Prime shipping needs a 1-day or same-day handling time.
- Cut-off times: 2:00 p.m. local time or later Monday to Friday; 10:30 a.m. or later on Saturday and Sunday.
- Weekends: use carriers that deliver Prime orders on Saturday, Sunday or both, and receive, pack and ship Prime orders on at least one weekend day.
- Shipping price: Prime customers pay $0.00 for every shipping option.
- Returns: Amazon auto-authorizes returns in the window; you pay return labels for items under 50 lb and refund within two business days of the item arriving.
- Order limit: set a daily Prime order limit you can reliably ship.
- Late-delivery protection: on-time delivery is protected when Shipping Settings Automation is on, you buy "OTDR Protected" labels in Amazon Buy Shipping or Veeqo, and you ship on time.
Monitoring is weekly, Sunday to Saturday. First miss: an email. Second miss of the same requirement: Prime offers disabled. Third: enrollment revoked. Four straight weeks of meeting a requirement resets it, and you have two weeks to appeal a notice.
Is Seller Fulfilled Prime open for enrollment right now?
Yes, through the trial, but timing matters this year. Amazon restricts trial graduation before major sales events. For peak 2026 the last trial start date was 19 September 2026, and the restricted graduation period runs 18 October to 31 December 2026. If you pass during that window, your Prime badge goes live after the period ends.
Since 5 November 2025 you can trial each size tier separately, and performance in one tier does not affect another. Amazon also states that no pre-trial assessment by Amazon, and no commitment by a 3PL, guarantees you will qualify. Check a Seller Fulfilled Prime 3PL's real delivery data, by zip code and weekend coverage, before you sign.
Seller Fulfilled Prime vs FBA: which is better?
| Seller Fulfilled Prime | FBA | |
|---|---|---|
| Who stores and ships | You or your 3PL | Amazon |
| Prime badge | After passing the trial; kept by meeting weekly metrics | On eligible FBA offers |
| Shipping cost | You pay carriers; Prime buyers pay $0 | FBA fulfillment fee per unit (2026 rate card plus 3.5% surcharge since 17 April 2026) |
| Customer service and returns | Amazon handles post-order service; you pay return labels under 50 lb | Amazon handles |
| Biggest risk | Missing on-time or speed targets in a single week | Fee increases and peak fees (15 Oct 2026 to 14 Jan 2027) |
SFP tends to fit oversize, heavy or slow-moving products where FBA fees bite, or brands with a 3PL network that already delivers nationwide in two days. FBA fits most standard-size, fast-moving products. Many brands run both. Our FBA vs FBM guide goes deeper.
For brands at $100K a month and up, the fulfillment mix is a margin decision we model as part of FBA management, included in our $1,600 a month plan.
